Truly sad news. Cliff was a wonderful soul who brought joy to so many. He remains in my heart as a shining beacon of joy, love, and creativity. Little did he know that all of Tarah's friends were watching with such admiration as he toiled away in his studio, being creative and showing us by his example how beautiful things can be if you change your perspective a little. So welcoming and eager to share whatever he was working on with us, he made everyone he spoke to feel as if we were part of his journey. His creations were amazing, but you could tell his most proud creation was his children, whom he loved dearly. May he rest in peace. We will always save a special place in our hearts for Cliff and his wonderful family. I feel so fortunate that our paths crossed. Big hugs to the Spohn family in this difficult time.

Tarah and Shaina, what an immense loss. This memorial is a beautiful reflection of your dad. I’m sure it’s only just the tip of the iceberg of both his work and the impact he had. Having begun my lifelong friendship with Tarah in high school, that version of your dad is the one whom I have the privilege to remember—the one who was making art nonstop in his basement studio at Princess Wenonah drive. So I can only imagine how impossible it must have been to select what pieces to show here. No matter how late we’d hang out in the evenings, coming/going, he was always working down there, happy to banter or describe a commission he was working on. I mostly remember his dark sense of humor which was also filled with some profound and witty insight. He was really such a cool person.

I met Cliff at San Jose State, when he met Sach. Sach was my best friend at SJS and Cliff and I became life-long friends. I own lots of his paintings, and he did the art for my wedding invitation. We spent many hours discussing life, art, etc.....for many years. I always considered Cliff as one of my best friends, and I only choose the best as my friends. I miss you so much my friend.
